"Traits such as envy and selfish ambition are from the devil. The next time we catch ourselves envying someone’s house, shoes or marriage, let’s ask the Lord to immediately remove those thoughts. Please don’t take those traits lightly. The first murder mentioned in the Bible was the result of Cain becoming jealous of his brother, Abel. If you recognize jealousy and envy as some of your weaknesses, please pray until they are no longer an issue."
James 3:14-16New International Version (NIV)
14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
